The birth of the Savior!

Thomas Kinkade Interview (Click here to download my interview)

By Rev. Anthony Harper, Ph.D., IMCNews publisher

ObamaMr. Kinkade,

1. When and how did you come to faith in Christ Jesus as your personal Savior?

When I was a kid, my mother was a woman of prayer and she raised us to believe in what she would call ‘little miracles.’ If she got a $5 extra fee as a Notary Public, then that to her was a miracle. She believed that miracles were an every day occurrence, not just something that was dramatic like the parting of the waters of the Red Sea. She believed that miracles were as simple as a kind word or a small gesture or some opportunity that came your way that you didn’t expect. When I went off to college, she said “Son, I’m going to be praying for you that God will always reach out and touch your life.” It was during my years at Berkeley, I began to notice that God’s hand was at work – first in the professors that I had, second in the way in which I found my faith getting reinforced, and thirdly sometimes by the way He closed doors. It wasn’t just a question of Him opening doors all the time. I began to notice that sometimes when He closed doors, it was the greatest blessing as well. I went to southern California to go to Art school – when I was there, I went with friends to a Tent Revival meeting and that was the time I recommitted my life to Christ. I was about 20 years old at the time and I think that was a time where my faith emerged not just as a byproduct of my Mom’s faith, but as my own personal faith.

2. How has Christ Jesus inspired you in your art work?

Well, there’s no doubt that God created the world with a desire to give us pleasure. There is beauty in every sunset, there is hope in every sunrise and there’s a great sense of the abundance and diversity of the world itself. Color reminds me that God gave us senses that we can celebrate beauty. The world probably could have been just as easily created in black and white, but because we have a sense of color, we can celebrate nature in all its diversity. My belief is that the artist has a great chance to hold up a mirror to God’s creation and remind people of God’s love by reveling in the beauty of the forms He created. We pass through the beauty of this world without stopping to take notice of God’s hand of creation. His masterwork is the earth itself and the diversity of plant life, animal life, the diversity of natural experiences including sunrises, sunsets, misty mornings, etc., all testify to the abundance of His creativity. I think as artists, we just attest to God’s creative hand by attempting to imitate Him in our own creativity. My work radiates light. The light that I try to paint is not just the visual light of perception, but also the light of God’s radiant love. The sense that when you look in the windows, there are people at peace inside that dwelling. There’s a sense of all consuming comfort and tranquility that people need now more than ever.

3. John 3:16, how did that come about being on your paintings?

That is just a testimony to my faith in Christ. The core of the Gospel is John 3:16 because we realize that God loved the whole world, not just the bits and pieces of it that we think are desirable or worthy of His love, but God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. That’s a pretty powerful love. I put that scripture on my paintings as a testimony to my love for God and also to God’s love for me. The hope is that people will be curious about that scripture verse and will seek to understand it on their own. If someone opens the Bible and looks it up, then it’s been worth putting on my paintings.

4. In your experience with art, how old were you when you started doing sketching and later painting?

Well, I was in art as a baby. I definitely had a God given talent from an early age, but it was truly an opportunity to watch God’s hand at work. When I was 14 years old, an old artist moved into the neighborhood and became my mentor. Looking back, that was one of the greatest miracles of my life. In fact, that story, the story of how Glen Wessels moved to the neighborhood and adopted me as his protégé, friend and studio assistant, was told in a major Hollywood movie entitled 'Thomas Kinkade’s Christmas Cottage'. And this movie tells the story of this miracle in my life – the time that God brought an aging artist who needed a young friend and helper into my community and gave me a chance to work with him.

5. What else would you like to share with our readers?

My mom always said that God gives us talents for a reason – that when God gives you a talent that’s His gift to you, but that how you use your talent is your gift to God. I believe each of us in our own way, have talents and that the obligations of our talents is to let the light of God shine. Humans don’t glow in the physical sense, but we glow with God’s love as reflected in the way in which we treat one another. Jesus said you’ll know my children by their love for one another. This is truly a core scripture for me. I try in every way to exude love. When I meet with strangers at an event, or when I’m standing on the stage or when I’m in my daily dealings with people, I try to operate on the principle of love. I think love is the brightest light of all.

Thoughts about Obama’s speech as President-Elect
By Glenn Jones, www.indefenseofthefaith.org
The following are my thoughts and responses to watching President-Elect Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Chicago on Nov. 4, 2008. Click here to a transcript of his speech.

ObamaBarack Hussein Obama said that a united America elected him. That is not true. Good rhetoric, but not good reality.

Obama promises that America will become greater. That is not true. America will fall and in 4 years its people will be looking for a new leader once again who will promise them a full pocket book and a fat belly.

Obama calls for greater sacrifice and service. Those things are good in relation to certain things, such as Christian ministry, but what do they mean for us as Americans? Redistribution of wealth? Fewer freedoms for the sake of "fairness"? The destruction of state's rights? Tell us Mr. President-Elect.

Obama says a new dawn of American leadership is at hand and that America will defeat all those who seek to divide and destroy the world. That is not true. America can never defeat those things, even with a new "dawn" of American leadership. Only God in Jesus Christ can do those type of things. But it will not be for America that God does them. It will be for the Kingdom of God.

Obama is essentially saying this: America can change (i.e. - "yes we can") and overcome their shortcomings WITHOUT Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. This is the folly of all nations, especially America. In fact, today, the American dream is the spirit of anti-Christ in this country today. That can be seen in Obama's speech with crystal clear clarity. And, might I add, Barack Obama is its newly appointed prophet, priest, and king.

Ending his speech, Obama said that anyone who doubts America will be responded to with a spirit of a people saying "yes we can" and that America must summon a new spirit now that a new "dawn" has come. But, I ask, what spirit can be summoned at the call of man? The only spirit I know of is that spirit which is sinful within the hearts of mankind. That spirit is already summoned and it is the spirit that will not confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

This nation is so strong, this "democracy" so proud, but it will never see the glory it wants. It will always fall short because it is only the glory of the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ that will be seen on the Last Day. May we never forget that as we see the sinful hearts of humanity trying to build another Babel… that that goal will never happen. Unity for the people of the world will never come in that way.

There is only hope in Jesus Christ and that hope is most clearly seen through His Kingdom that is being preached through His Gospel by the Church throughout the world! For the glory of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! Amen.

Media ignores Obama's socialist past
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 10/13/2008 10:05:00 AM

ObamaA conservative media analyst says the mainstream media is not only downplaying Barack Obama's connection to former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, but also choosing not to report on the Democratic presidential nominee's past membership in a socialist organization.

Bob Knight of the Culture and Media Institute believes the media are so busy examining the GOP presidential ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin, hoping to uncover some dirt, that they are not looking into Obama's questionable connections, including that with former Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers. Knight contends the media are trying to portray Ayers as a "rehabilitated" terrorist whose bombing of the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol was merely a "youthful indiscretion."

"Ayers is still involved in radical efforts to socialize children into left-wing views beginning in kindergarten," Knight says. "That's what he does as an education expert; he's by no means reformed."
 Robert Knight
The media, according to Knight, is also attempting to cover up the fact that Obama was endorsed by and also a member of a political party established by the Democratic Socialists of America. "When a candidate is revealed to have had ties to a far-left or far-right party, that should be news," he adds. "The fact that Obama has been linked to this socialist party would be of interest to most Americans, which is why the mainstream media are suppressing that fact."

While running for the Illinois State Senate, Obama signed a contract with the Chicago "New Party," which was established by the Democratic Socialists of America.

McCain Chooses Gov. Palin of Alaska

Aides for Sen. McCain indicated this morning that his choice of a running mate is the Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska.

The 44-year-old Palin, by the way, was born in Idaho and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987.

Palin said on her 2006 campaign website, "I am pro-life." She gave birth to a baby this year who had been diagnosed while in her womb with Down's syndrome. Abortion, she said, was never an option for her and her husband Todd.

"We've both been very vocal about being pro-life," she told the AP. "We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential." One day after his birth, she said, "[W]e feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has the potential to make this world a better place."

The choice may well be an inspired one on McCain's part. The contrast between Gov. Palin and Sen. Obama on the sanctity of life could not be more stark.

Sen. Obama supported infanticide while an Illinoise state senator, and in effect said that an unwanted child deserves to die. Meanwhile, Gov. Palin believes that every child in the womb, birth defect or no, has been made in the image of God and deserves to live.

The choice for American voters on Nov. 4 could not be clearer on the fundamental moral issue of our time.

Abortion is our national sin, as slavery was 150 years ago. One presidential ticket will defend this sin and call it a virtue. The other ticket will resist this sin and call it a moral blight, and lead us toward national righteousness and true virtue.

As columnist Nat Hentoff wrote, "[H]er presence (as McCain's VP pick) could highlight Mr. Obama's extremist abortion views on whether certain lives are worth living - even a child born after a botched abortion."

A pro-abortion website refers to her as "anti-choice" and "a heroine of the 'pro-life' movement.'" The American Spectator describes her as "strongly pro-life," and adds, "She is the perfect antidote to Sen. Obama's cheap thrills, and would help rejuvenate conservatism."

On other matters, she stated, again on her 2006 campaign website, "I believe that marriage should only be between (a) man and a woman." (Alaska passed the first marriage amendment in the nation in 1988.)

Regarding the death penalty, she said, "If the legislature passed a death penalty law, I would sign it. We have a right to know that someone who rapes and murders a child or kills an innocent person in a drive by shooting will never be able to do that again."

She is a supporter of the Second Amendment and is a lifelong member of the NRA.

She differs with McCain on drilling in ANWR, referring repeatedly to the need to "getting ANWR open," and adding, "[W]e're trying to convince the rest of the nation to open ANWR." Perhaps she can begin with the man at the top of the ticket.

She supports "flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care" which "will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies."

Bottom line: social conservatives will find much to like in Gov. Palin. She would not bring only strong convictions on social issues, but youth, beauty, charm and pizzazz to McCain's campaign, and make it even more difficult for Obama to attract the female vote, where he lags behind previous Democratic presidential candidates. On the whole, a boffo choice.

Worship ’08, Salt Lake City, Utah
by Robyn Thomas, Lehi, Utah

On Sunday, August 17, 2008 in the early evening, over 800 people gathered in downtown Salt Lake City to glorify God together at Worship ’08, an annual Christian worship festival for Utah Believers. Every summer, Standing Together, a local Utah evangelical Christian ministry which focuses on advancing Biblical unity and spiritual transformation in Utah, brings Christian worship bands together to lead attendees in a time of corporate worship together.

This year’s concert featured two Salt Lake City local church worship bands, City Church Live and Capital Church in the City, along with a children’s group from Abundant Life Assembly of God. The concert also featured a young Christian band from Florida called Adam’s Road. Adam’s Road’s members are all former Latter-day Saints who are now evangelical Christians. This was their first performance in Utah and opportunity to come back to the state where several of them were raised.

Several families gathered to glorify God together, testifying of who He is, what He has done and what He is going to do!

Wyoming Rock Stock Festival 2008
By Lisa Russell

The first annual Wyoming Rock Stock Festival was held August 16, 2008 just outside of Sheridan on the beautiful polo fields of the Big Horn Events Center. Over 700 people of all ages came to this family event to enjoy bands including Big Daddy Weave, Chariot Sky, KAbOose, Surrender, Freefall, Scott Morris and Adam Cruz. The lush, manicured lawn against the backdrop of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains provided a gorgeous setting for the festival.

Rock Stock promoters Tony and June Laing of Sheridan, have been involved for many years in music ministry. June toured with Signs of Love, a group from Christ for the Nations. She and Tony have written and recorded many Christian songs, as well as performed and led worship in many Churches throughout Wyoming. This talented couple is no stranger to the music industry, but undertaking an event of this size was a leap of faith for the Laings. "We were inspired by Hills Alive in South Dakota and similar concerts in neighboring states," says Tony, "And for three years God laid it on my heart to bring this type of festival to Wyoming." "We want to bring people to Jesus," June adds, "and music is a beautiful way to proclaim God's message of Salvation."

The Laings made the decision to go forward with the concert in early June, and nine short weeks later it became reality. "We had no money for this event, very little preparation time, and tons to do," says Tony, "God provided everything--He was faithful in our every need."

The Laings also wanted to bring special recognition to a group of individuals at this Festival. Over 100 Military, both active and inactive were called to the front to be honored and thanked for their service. A prayer of thanksgiving was lifted for them, and the tribute ended with the Laing's children, eight-year-old

Kody, and six-year-old BreeAnna singing "The National Anthem." Many of the servicemen and women, as well as those in the audience were moved to tears. "God and our Military made it possible for this event to even take place," says Tony. "We need to be reminded of the sacrifice they gave to us."

The success of the first annual WY Rock Stock Festival was praised by many. Band Leader, Mike Weaver of Big Daddy Weave, said that it was one of themost organized concerts he has performed at,"The location was beautiful, the food was excellent, we had so much fun-we are looking forward to next year!"

The Laings would like to especially thank the many who prayed, gave their time and finances for this music ministry. They would also like to invite everyone to next year's Festival, tentatively set for Saturday, July 25.

If you would like more information on the 2009 Wyoming Rock Stock Festival, or would like to help sponsor this event, please email: souledoutrecords@yahoo.com or write: WY Rock Stock Festival,

Thoughts On The Saddleback Showdown
By Bryan Fischer, Executive Director, Idaho Values Alliance

THE SANCTITY OF LIFE

“...the baby leaped in her womb...” ~ Luke 1:41
“...the baby in my womb leaped for joy...” ~ Luke 1:44

The two primary contenders for the presidency, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain, appeared at a forum on Saturday night and responded to questions posed by Saddleback Church’s senior pastor, Rick Warren, author of the huge bestseller “The Purpose Driven Life.”

To Warren’s credit, he posed direct questions to each candidate on abortion and marriage, after earlier giving indications that he would avoid such controversial topics, an avoidance that would have masked Obama’s radicalism and boosted his standing among evangelicals.

But Warren apparently heard the thunderous outcry from evangelical leaders from one end of the country to the other, who vigorously protested that no legitimate faith forum could omit questions on the two great moral questions of the day.

For any thinking and well-taught evangelical, the response of the two candidates on the sanctity of human life should end any indecision he might have in choosing between the two primary candidates for the highest office in the land.

Obama flatly said, “I’m pro-choice,” after which he immediately declared, “I believe in Roe v. Wade,” a disastrous Supreme Court decision that “legalized” abortion at all stages of pregnancy for any reason whatsoever.

His defense for his pro-choice position is that women don’t make abortion decisions “casually.”

But try to imagine a thinking evangelical supporting a “pro-choice” position on any other great moral question of the last two centuries. Let’s imagine a candidate, for instance, taking the following position on slavery in 1860: “I’m pro-choice on slavery, and I believe in Dred Scott.”

Or an evangelical candidate running for office in Germany in 1944 saying, “I’m pro-choice on gassing Jews, and I believe in the Final Solution.”

Obama defended his position on grounds that he has seen to it that language has been inserted into the Democratic national platform that urges the party to find ways to reduce the number of abortions. (He wrongly asserted, by the way, that abortions have not gone down in the last eight years. Even Planned Parenthood’s research arm, The Guttmacher Institute, admits that there were
fewer abortions in America last year than any year since 1976.)
